Tips For Taking Care of My Shower Doors

At Coastal Closets & Showers, we like to give our clients this information as soon as their doors are installed so they’re never left wondering how to take care of their shower doors.

If you have glass shower doors in your home, we’re going to share these same tips with you so you can reap all the rewards of sparkling clean glass shower doors.

  • Clean your shower AFTER you shower
  • Use a vinegar solution on your glass door enclosure
  • Keep a microfiber cloth handy
  • Switch to a non-talc soap
  • Don’t forget the metal tracks (if applicable)

Shower Cleaning Solution

To keep your glass shower doors sparkling clean, you can use common ingredients you probably already have at home! A mix of white vinegar, baking soda, and salt is usually all it takes to tackle this job.

  • Start by filling a clean spray bottle with white vinegar and spraying it on the glass shower doors.
  • In a separate container, mix equal parts baking soda and salt until it forms a paste. Apply the baking soda and salt solution to the shower doors with a damp sponge and water stains and soap scum will be gone in no time!
  • Once you’ve covered all the glass panels, rinse with water and see the beautiful results of your work.

This solution works for showers with semi frameless shower doors, sliding shower doors, and other glass shower enclosures.

Preventing Soap Scum

While your glass shower doors may be the first place you’ll notice needing to be cleaned, there are other important parts of your shower that need to be cared for too. If you have frame sliding glass shower doors, the tracks the shower doors run on need to be cleaned regularly. Otherwise, they’ll build up grime and gunk that gets harder to clean the longer it’s left.

To clean your shower door tracks, start by plugging any drains or openings in the tracks. Then, you’ll rely on your trusty vinegar solution yet again! Fill the tracks with vinegar and let this rest overnight. The next day, remove the plugs and wipe down the tracks and they’ll look better than ever! For spots that need a little extra attention, a toothbrush will work well.

If you don’t have shower door tracks, be sure to check the shower curb top where the bottom of the shower door meets a seal to prevent water from leaking. The bottom of the glass, as well as the curb top, need to be cleaned and checked for mildew or mold along with other parts of your shower.
